ST. GEORGE – The Southwest Utah Public Health Department and the TRUTH campaign invites youth ages 18 and under to compete in the Rule the Rocks 5 skateboarding/BMX competitionThe competition is exclusive to rural Utah and will take at the St. George skate park on June 2.

Youth are invited to enter one of four categories: beginner, intermediate, advanced and BMX. All entrants get this year’s retro-style ¾ sleeve shirt, but only the top three from each category will win bragging rights and the biggest prizes; including cash, customized skate decks and BMX accessories.

Rule the Rocks is about more than skateboarding and BMX; it’s about teaching youth to dream big and to avoid those products and choices that can ruin those dreams.

“It’s a way for the youth to get involved in an activity that has a message,” said Dani Sandoval, a member of the Washington County Youth Coalition.  “It gives them something to look forward to and shows them that big sports like skateboarding and biking are trying to spread a message to be tobacco-free and above the influence.”

The tobacco industry spends more than $49 million in Utah each year on marketing. Ninety percent of adult smokers begin lighting up before age 19 and one in three will eventually die from smoking-related illnesses. For more information and online registration, visit www.TruthAgainstTobacco.com.

Registration is from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m., with the competition from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., and will take place as the St. George skate park, 171 E. 1160 South, St. George.

Rule the Rocks 5 is sponsored by Arkade Magazine and 50/50 BMX.
