Ivins Fitness Festival runs for fun with Ironman

IVINS – In the spirit of the Ironman St. George, the 3rd annual Ivins Fitness Festival at UNITY Park offers fun activities to promote fitness and health, as well as an exciting opportunity to watch the race up close.

Among the attractions of the festival are vendors promoting health-conscious food, children’s activities, a tennis demonstration and games throughout the day, including a Two-Ball tournament. There will also be former contestants from The Biggest Loser reality television show on hand to demonstrate how eating a healthy diet and staying active has impacted their lives. But as the event coincides with the ongoing Ironman, the race and its participants will undoubtedly be the main focus of the day.

UNITY Park, located at 200 West and 400 South in Ivins, is the official viewing point for the bicycle portion of the triathlon (comprised of a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike ride, and 26.2 mile run). Though there is plenty to do at the festival itself, Ivins City Parks and Recreation administrative assistant Jennifer Chapman said that this year, the organizers are trying to offer more support to the racers. All activities and entertainment will be moved closer to the course and there will be plenty of opportunities for the crowd to support the Ironman (or woman) of their choice.

The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on May 5. At 6:30 a.m., there will be a free 4 mile Fun Run in which any members of the public can participate. Those interested in registering for the run or as volunteer or vendor are encouraged to visit the Ivins city website.
