Logan – The Dixie Rebels traveled to Logan Saturday night to take on the Logan Stampede.
The game started off with a bang as Rebels’ quarterback Diarra Fields threw a 59-yard touchdown pass to Dallas Irvin, who was back for the first time this season, on the first play of the game. The Rebels seemed to be in control the entire game, but couldn’t to put it entirely out of reach until the end with a solid 35-22 victory.
After the game, Andy Stokes, who caught two touchdown passes during the game, said: “Our offense is cleaning up. We’re starting to hit our stride. I think our defense is starting to hit their stride. We’re hitting our stride as a team at the right time.”
Stokes mentioned the offense cleaning up, the passing attack looked the best it had all season.
The Stampede’s run defense was fierce, but Fields was able to keep moving the ball down the field with his arm as Stokes, Irvin and Brennan Adams were able to get open and make plays.
Early in the game the Stampede were able to stay in the game because they had a significant advantage in special teams. Rebels’ kicker and punter, Steve Pulver, was unable to make it to the game which was a significant blow to the team early.
The Rebels, however, were able to take a 21-13 lead into halftime.
In the fourth quarter it appeared, for a short time, the Rebels had put the Stampede away as David Bishoff intercepted a pass and returned it to the ten yard line to set up the touchdown pass to Irvin that put the Rebels up 35-16.
However, the Stampede made one final push as their quarterback started to find open receivers and they were able to start moving the ball down the field. Their quarterback was able to pick up a touchdown on the ground to make it 35-22.
They then held the Rebels and quickly got the ball back. They continued to move the ball and got into the red zone, but the Rebels’ defense stopped them dead in their tracks and forced a turnover on downs to finish out the game.
