New season, old foes: Dixie Rebels at the Wasatch REVolution

ST. GEORGE – The Dixie Rebels semi-pro team will be at Granger High School in West Valley City today to take on the Wasatch REVolution in the Rocky Mountain Football League. This is a rematch of the championship game from last year.

These two faced each other twice last year in what turned out to be the two biggest games of the year.

First, they faced each other in the last game of the regular season as the only remaining two undefeated teams and battled it out for home field advantage throughout the playoffs. The Rebels won that contest 37-17.

They then faced each other again in the championship game. The Rebels also won the championship handily on the strength of their prolific offense and some solid defense.

REVolution quarterback, and former BYU quarterback, Charlie Peterson was under constant pressure from the Rebels’ defensive line which kept him from getting into a rhythm in either game.

Rebels’ coach Dam Odette believes that the REVolution will have the problems with their offensive line worked out. He said the Rebels “have set the standard to how to run a semi-pro football team. It’s quite the compliment to Doug Cook, Wayne Alofipo, and Andy Stokes, but now all the other teams are gunning for us.”

On top of that is the fact that over the off-season the REVolution beefed up their defense by adding star players from the Utah Bears, who dissolved during the off-season.

With the added talent the REVolution are expected to be significantly better; but, in that aspect, the Rebels may be fortunate as they are playing them so early in the season and the REVolution’s new and old players are likely still trying to fully mesh.

It’s certain to be a critical and an entertaining game between them today.
