ST. GEORGE – Innovators with technology based business ideas or processes have a great opportunity to obtain help in getting started. The 2012 Southern Utah General Technology “Concept to Company” Contest allows participants to compete for $45,000 in cash and consulting prizes. Entries must be submitted online by April 17, midnight.
Contest rules and online entry form may be accessed at the Concept to Company website. The Utah Science Technology and Research initiative, also known as USTAR, and Dixie Business Alliance’s program for Stimulating the Expansion of Entrepreneurial Development, also known as SEED Dixie, are hosting the contest along with Grow Utah Ventures says the entry process is fairly simple.
“We don’t ask for a full business plan,” Director Jill Elliss said. “Participants complete a seven box form that elicits key information about the innovation.”
The contest is open to legal residents of Utah or Mesquite, Nevada, 18 and older, are located in Utah or Mesquite at the time of entry.
Following the April 17 deadline, a screening panel will select 6-8 finalists who will present to a panel of experienced business judges on May 9. The top three finalists will then compete at a CrowdPitch on May 10 at 11:30 a.m. where the public will be invited to participate in the grand prize judging à la American Idol.

Not worth submitting your idea… If you want to win this contest, just submit a wheelchair with a drink holder or something. They don’t see real value in technology and the board is just a bunch of old timers who think making handicap peoples lives easier deserves to win for charity alone.
