Jazz shock Thunder, extend winning streak to 4

Utah Jazz

SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah Jazz end the game on a 10-4 run, to hold of the Oklahoma City Thunder 97-90 Tuesday night in Salt Lake City.

The Jazz once again played like a team with six players in double figures. Paul Millsap led the way for the Jazz with 20 points, Al Jefferson scored 16 points in his return and Devin Harris added 15 points. Gordan Hayward and Jamall Tinsley each helped out with 11 points and CJ Miles chipped in 10 points.

The Thunder big two were held in check for most of the night. For the second straight game the Jazz held one of the league’s best players to a rough shooting night. Kevin Durant went 6-22 from the field, 1-5 from the 3-point line, to finish with 18 points. Two nights ago the Jazz held Kobe Bryant to 3-20 shooting.

Russell Westbrook led all scores with a game high 23 points. James Harden added 17 points off the bench, and Serge Ibaka chipped in 13.

This was the third and final meeting between the two teams. The Thunder won the first two meetings in blowout fashion, 101-87 in SLC and 111-85 in OKC. The Jazz were a different team then. The Jazz have a new found confidence that has helped them get back over 500 on the season, with a 24-22 record and just a half-game-out for the eighth and final playoff spot.

The Jazz take on Jimmer Fredette and the Sacramento Kings tomorrow night in Sacramento before heading back home to take on Denver Friday night.

In sad news for the Jazz, starting forward Josh Howard has to have season-ending knee surgery on his left knee. The Jazz team spokesman said that Howard is going to seek a second opinion.
