ST. GEORGE – The sculptures on the streets and corners of downtown St. George tell the story of the city. Some art pieces represent important figures and events in the history of St. George and others bring delight, whimsy, or contemplation. All have a profound effect on the ambiance of the heart of downtown.

For the past eight years, Art Around the Corner has served as a conduit for the introduction of new sculptures to St. George, thanks to the generosity of many artists who allow their pieces to be displayed during a one year outdoor exhibition. During that year, sculptures may be enjoyed, and purchased, with proceeds helping to continue the annual exhibit. The opportunity to see and acquire new sculptures has enriched both the collections of private collectors and local organizations and municipalities, such the purchase of Dan Hill’s sculpture “Little Squirt” by the City of St. George last year.

“The 2012 Exhibit holds some wonderful new surprises,” said Shannon Jensen, Art Around the Couner’s current chair. “We are extremely fortunate to have so many talented sculptors participate this year, and we are excited to provide an opportunity to display their work.”

New pieces include a large train sculpture titled “The Dixie Express” filled with lively characters by Matt Clark, and the 2011 favorite “Puffed-Up Prince” by Gary Lee Price will be joined by the “Puffed-Up Princess.” Other participating sculptors include L’Deane Trueblood, David Turner, Ronny Walker, Dan Toone and Brady Fairbanks, among others.

Art Around the Corner invites the public to enjoy a free walking tour of these new works following their installation on March 23rd. A guide for the walking tour is available on the website www.ArtAroundTheCorner.org, and in paper form on Town Square, on Zions Bank Plaza on Main Street, and at the St. George Chamber of Commerce.

Art Around the Corner is a not-for-profit 501(c)3 organization dedicated to supporting the arts and enriching the community of St. George. It has been a major force behind projects like the restoration of the Opera House and building the St. George Art Museum and Social Hall. Ongoing Foundation undertakings include the Art Around the Corner open-air sculpture exhibit, the Partner in the Arts Award, and quarterly Art On Main art strolls.
