Dixie State to host jazz concert

ST. GEORGE – The Dixie State College Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of DSC Music Department Chair Glenn Webb, presents its annual mid-winter concert on Tuesday, Feb. 28, at 7:30 p.m., at the DSC Eccles Fine Arts Center Concert Hall.

The band will perform “Jump Caprice” by Mary Lou Williams, who was one of the first non-vocalist women to make a mark in jazz history. A skilled pianist and composer, Williams wrote three compositions for the Benny Goodman Band in 1946.

The Jazz Ensemble will also feature DSC student vocalist Emma Nelson on two arrangements of songs made popular by Grammy winner Al Jarreau. In addition, the Ensemble will be joined on stage by DSC’s Voce Vili men’s chorus club, for a few numbers.

General admission tickets will be available at the door for $5 for adults and $1 for DSC students and faculty and staff with current ID. Patrons may also purchase tickets online at tickets.dixie.edu. For tickets and further information, please call 435-652-7800 or visit the central campus ticket office at the DSC Avenna Center.

High school musicians may receive complementary tickets by contacting the Dixie State College Music Department at 435-652-7790.
