Hurricane – To celebrate 75 years of service to the communities of southern Utah, SouthWest Community Credit Union will host a special open house where area residents can shred, dunk and dine to support the Hurricane High School athletic department.
Held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on March 3, 2012, at SouthWest Community’s Hurricane branch office at 85 North 200 West in Hurricane, sharp shooters can win big prizes and benefit the Hurricane High School basketball team. Guests can also enter a drawing to win a $500 CD certificate, earn discounts on home mortgage appraisals, and enjoy free pizza and drinks while supplies last.
Two rock the rim fundraising events – which will feature visits from the Hurricane High School basketball team – will highlight the Open House. Washington County residents are encouraged to sign up for Hot Shots for Hurricane, in which participants have three minutes to sink baskets from a free-throw line.
The cost to participate is just $10 and all proceeds will be donated to the Hurricane High School Athletic Department. The top three hoopsters who make the most baskets will win a trip to Mesquite, Jazz tickets or dinner at a local restaurant.
Varsity basketball players from Hurricane High will also be on-hand to mingle with guests and retrieve the basketballs. Children under eight will have their own competition called Tot Shots, in which they will have one minute to make baskets. The top children’s winners will receive VISA gift cards.
Myrna Stout, director of Mortgage Lending for Southwest Community Credit Union, said the events are all designed to reflect their long-standing commitment to the community.
“We are very member-oriented and have been since we first opened our doors 75 years ago,” Stout said. “The Open House is just one way of giving back to the great community we live in.”
Simpson’s Shredding will also be on-site with a shredding truck to shred and remove trash paper products and sensitive documents.
