Driver transported to hospital after multi-car accident

ST. GEORGE – A man was transported to Dixie Regional Medical Center after a multi-car accident occurred on Friday.

Lt. Thad Felter of the St. George Police Department said a vehicle was traveling southbound on Bluff Street and was “bouncing in and out of the lanes” when it rear-ended another vehicle near 300 North at 2:45 p.m.

The impact of the first vehicle caused a chain-reaction that struck additional vehicles nearby, as well as in the parking lot of a Maytag dealership. In all, eight vehicles were damaged in the accident.

Felter said the speed at which the driver who triggered the accident was traveling is currently unknown, but did say it was above the posted 35-mile-per-hour speed limit for that area.

There were no fatalities, though one individual, a male who Felter identified as the alleged driver, was transported to Dixie Regional Medical Center for injuries.  Felter was unable to comment on the driver’s condition.

A determination into the state of the driver – whether he was affected by a medical condition or driving impaired – has yet to be made as the investigation is ongoing.

The accident scene was cleared by 4:30 p.m.

The driver had an expired license, was belligerent towards the police, and has a criminal history. Some sort of “mental imbalance” for sure, and probably not a coincidence that he has a drug history. But at least this time it’s not an illegal immigrant.
