Flyers’ comeback falls short against Redmen


CEDAR CITY – The Cedar Redmen held off the charging Dixie Flyers to win 54-51, extending their winning streak to six games. The Flyers have now lost three in a row and are only a half game ahead of Snow Canyon for the fourth and final playoff spot.

The Redmen, who led throughout the game, got a double-double from Trent Snow who had a game high 20 points and 11 rebounds. The region’s leading scorer Kyler Nielson added 16 points for the Redmen.

The Flyers came from 7-down in the final quarter and had a shot to tie the game at the end of regulation but could not convert. The Flyers had three players in double figures, led by Walker Swenson’s 17 points. Brandon Pledger scored a career high 15 points and Devin Bennett chipped in with 13 points.

The Flyers travel to rival Pine View’s Panthers on Friday and will look to get back to their winning way. The Flyers are now 5-4 in region play.

The Redmen take on the Hurricane Tigers in a game that could decide home court advantage in the first round of the playoffs, the Tigers have revenge on their minds after a 2-point loss in Cedar just a few weeks ago.

Both games are set to tip at 7 p.m. on Friday.
