Tigers have their revenge on Flyers

ST. GEORGE – The Hurricane Tigers improve to 5-2 in region play after beating the Dixie Flyers (5-3) 39-31 on Friday night. The Tigers get their revenge on the Flyers who beat the Tigers in Hurricane less then a month ago.

The low scoring game was led by the Flyers at the half 18-17, but the Tigers changed things up by going into a 2-3 zone defense and that  caused the Flyers trouble.

The game was a tail of two half’s for both teams. The Tigers leading scorer, Colton Marshall, did not score in the first half, but finished the game with 13 points. Tiger’s second leading scorer, Boston Gubler, had 10 points in the first half but only four in the second half, finished with 14 points overall.

In a game where neither team could get going offensively, it came down to defense and rebounding. The Tigers out-rebounded the Flyers 32-15, including 12 offensive rebounds, and outscored the Flyers 30-12 in the paint.

Deshon Brown led the Flyers with 10 points. Walker Swenson added eight points (all in the second quarter) and Kyler Smith chipped in seven. The Flyers leading scorer Devin Bennett did not score intill the forth quarter. Bennett finished the game with four points.

Weston Yardley was the only other Tiger in double figures, scoring 11 points.

The Flyers started the week in a tie for first place in region 9 and ended the week in forth place only one game up on fifth place – only the top four teams make the playoffs.

The Flyers travel to Cedar on Wednesday to take on the Cedar Redmen.

Hurricane host Pine View on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
