ST. GEORGE– Approximately 3,000 racers will gather next weekend at the Dixie Center, 1835 South Convention Center Drive, to participate in the second annual St. George Half-Marathon.
The event will take place Jan. 21, and the Half-Marathon Health and Fitness Expo takes place the day before to help racers and the public learn more about the race.
“You can expect to come in and see vendors who cater to the fitness crowd from running stores, to appeal and gear, clothing and shoes,” said Kyle Yardley, the event and race coordinator. “[There will be] race groups from other cities and communities to promote their races as well.”
There is not only a half-marathon and 5K for the adults but also a race referred to as ‘Tough Kids” for children 12 and under to participate in. The agenda is arranged so the 5K begins at 8:50 a.m., the half marathon at 9 a.m. and the Tough Kids events begin at noon so the parents can support their children who are competing.
Preregistration for all events is available until Jan. 13, and each participant receives a T-shirt and racers packet as part of the race fee. The half marathon is $40, 5K $25 and the “Tough Kids” event is $10.

“It is just fun to come and feel the atmosphere to meet the racers,” Yardley said.
