Washington County Republicans select Snow as Clark’s replacement

ST. GEORGE – Attorney V. Lowry Snow was selected by Washington County republicans to replace David Clark on Thuraday.

Members of the Washington County Republican Central Committee representing District 74 met Thursday night to meet the individuals seeking to fill Clark’s seat and to vote for his replacement. Clark officially resigned from the legislature on Thursday so he could focus on a campaign for Utah’s 2nd congressional district.

Besides Snow, others vying for Clark’s former seat included Diane Adams, Pat Bradley and Bradley Root.

Snow won with a total of 38 votes from the 59-member committee.

Since the announcement of his selection, Snow said his phone has not stopped ringing since 7 a.m. Friday. One after another, people have been contacting him with information related to his new position.

The next session of the Utah Legislature beings on Jan. 23, giving Snow under 20 days to became well-acquainted with the many intricacies of his new role as District 74’s new representative.

“It’s like preparing for a big court case in a small amount of time,” he said.

Still, Snow said he is confident he will be ready in time for the upcoming legislative.

“I fully intend to be up to speed on all information and contribute to the process,” he said. “I expect an exchange of vigorous discussion and debate ahead.”

Snow added he would be meeting with the speaker of the Utah State House of Representatives soon, at which time he would be made aware of the particulars that come with being a new member of the State House

Snow graduated from Brigham Young University with a bachelor’s degree in 1975 and earned a Juris Doctorate from Gonzaga University Law School in 1979.  He is a co-founder in 1986 of the law firm Snow & Jensen, which later became Snow Jensen & Reece.  He focusing primarily on real estate, business, municipal government and telecommunications law.

Snow served as the Utah State Bar President from 2007 to 2008 and as a Bar Commissioner from 2000 to 2009. He currently chairs the Judicial Performance and Evaluation Commission for the State of Utah, which was established by the legislature in 2008 and charged with the responsibility of evaluating and reporting the performance of all judges in the state.

Snow and his wife Sheryl are residents of Santa Clara.  They have 6 children and 10 grandchildren.
