Great weekend for Region 9 teams

ST. GEORGE – Over the weekend six Region 9 teams competed in a total of 10 basketball games.  Canyon View, Desert Hills, Dixie, Hurricane, Pine View and Snow Canyon were all in action.

The Canyon View Falcons beat Beaver 60-43, on Dec. 9.

The Falcons had three players in double figures. Kameron King led the way for the Falcons with 13 points; Chad Corry added 12 points and Jordan Holman finished with 10 points. The Falcons improved to 3-1 on the season and play at Cedar High School to open Region play on Dec. 14, at 7 p.m.

The Snow Canyon Warriors also played on Dec. 9.

The Warriors were up north in Park City. The Warriors came up just short losing to Park City 65-60. Ben Gottfredson and Brayden Linde led the Warriors with 14 points each. The Warriors are now 2-1 on the season and open Region 9 play with Pine View on Dec. 14, at Snow Canyon High School at 7 p.m.

The No. 1 ranked Desert Hills Thunder played on Dec. 9, and Dec.10.

The Thunder faced Juan Diego on Dec. 9 and won 81-44. Hurricane was led by Jaden Beckstrand who finished with 17 points. Brandon Simister added 11 points and nine assists. On Saturday the Thunder continued their wins beating Juab 59-28. Tyler Ott led the scores with 17 points and ten rebounds. The Thunder remain undefeated at 4-0 and play at Dixie High School Wednesday on Dec. 14 at 7 p.m.

The Dixie Flyers also played two games over the weekend. The Flyers were in the Ken Robinson Classic at Dixie State College.

The Flyers opened with Springville and came out on top 50-47, on Dec. 9.

Walker Swenson led the scores with 16 points. Deshon Brown and Devin Bennett each scored 13 points. In the Championship game on Dec. 10, the Flyers came up short against Logan 53-43 for their first loss of the season. The Flyers did not have anyone in double figures and lost their star player at the end of the first half. Walker Swenson took a charge and left the game with what was suspected to be stomach pain. Swenson was taken to the hospital where he later had surgery. Swenson is now in recovery. The Flyers take on top ranked Desert Hills on Dec. 14, at Dixie High School. The Flyers are now 3-1

The Hurricane Tigers got two big wins over the weekend first beating Juab 48-30 on Dec. 9, and beating Juan Diego 73-54, on Dec. 10. The Tigers are now 2-2 on the season.

Weston Yardley led the scores with 13 points in Friday’s game Colton Marshall was also in double figures with 10 points and 14 rebounds. The Tigers had four players in double figures led by Boston Gublers double-double finishing with 16 points ten rebounds on Dec. 10. Marshall and Taylor Parker both had 15 points and Yardley finished with 13 points. The Tigers travel to Delta on Dec. 9.

The Pine View Panthers were also played over the weekend.

The Panthers traveled to Page, Ariz., for a three-day tournament and won their semi-final game against the host school, Page High School, 49-37 on Friday night. Cody Boyer’s 11 points led the Panthers. The Panthers fell to Kellis High School 58-40 in the Championship game on Dec. 10. The Panthers shot 50 percent from the free throw line and only had one player in double figures, freshman Kody Wilstead who scored a career high 18 points and 15 rebounds. The Panthers open Region play at Snow Canyon High School on Dec. 14, at 7 p.m. The Panthers are off to a great start with a 5-1 record.
