Washington City Public Safety officers arrest 6 burglary suspects

WASHINGTON CITY – On Nov. 25, a local business owner discovered numerous items of property that appeared to have been discarded behind their store.  Washington City Public Safety officers were notified and during the course of their investigation, discovered that the found property came from a storage unit on East Telegraph Street.

Further investigation revealed that the storage unit had been recently burglarized.  The renters of the storage unit provided Washington officers with a detailed list of property that had been stored in the unit.  The total value of the property taken from the storage unit is estimated to be $25,000.  Much of the stolen property has been recovered by Washington City Public Safety officers and detectives and returned to the owners.

Ongoing investigation led detectives to several individuals who are alleged to have been involved in the burglary as well as possession and disposal of the stolen property.  Four adult males and two adult females have been arrested and charged with burglary of a non–dwelling, felony theft, possession of stolen property, various drug charges, and theft of services.

Arrested were George Avakian, 40; Tara Hamilton, 36;  Mark Chavez, 54; Melissa Lyon, 39; Richard Wood,  46; and Shawn Haight, 48.  All involved parties are associates and are current residents of Washington County.

* Persons accused are presumed innocent unless found guilty in a court of law.
