St. George man arrested for shovel handle attack

ST. GEORGE – A St. George man was charged with aggravated assault and aggravated burglary for attacking another man with a shovel handle and hitting his ex-girlfriend Tuesday night.

Cameron Carson, 25, had discovered the home where his ex-girlfriend was visiting with a male companion. He was allegedly able to enter the home through an unlocked door and is accused of proceeding to beat the man with a shovel handle and then hit him with his fists. The woman ran out of the house and Carson allegedly pursued her into the parking lot where he began to hit her,  as well.

Captain James Van Fleet of the St. George Police Department said a concerned neighbor got between Carson and the woman, and detained Carson until the police arrived at 11:30 p.m. and arrested him

Van Fleet said Carson was booked into jail on two counts of aggravated assault for the attacks on the man and the ex-girlfriend, and one count of aggravated burglary for entering the home uninvited and with a weapon.

Carson’s bail has been set at $300,000. Van Fleet explained the police felt the high rate was necessary in order to keep the ex-girlfriend safe, and the judge was contacted to approve the bail amount.

Minor injuries were sustained by the ex-girlfriend, and the male victim was taken to Dixie Regional Medical Center for some cuts and bruises, Van Fleet added.

Van Fleet also praised the neighbor who took action and stopped Carson.

“We’re very fortunate to have good citizens like this in St. George,” Van Fleet said.

Carson is extremely fortunate that he was not shot by any one of the thousands of legally armed citizens who hold CCW permits. The story does not say if the “concerned neighbor” was armed or not, but he is to bve commended for taking the initiative to get involved. We will never know if he saved a life or not…more likely he did. I recall the individual that attacked a female employee at Home Depot a few months ago. I had left the store approximately 10 minutes prior to the attack. As alegally armed CCW holder, that individual is fortunate that I was not there or it could have turned out real bad for him. Eventually and unfortuately, some perpretator will be shot in the future when an individual criminally confronts his victim and that victim will be armed. Sadly we will continue to see an increase in crime as the current economy will dive many to commit crimes.

Firefly- How unfortunate would you really feel if some poor sod at the height of his anger is shot and killed by a gun-toting trigger happy wazoo neighbor? He doesn’t have a gun? Who cares, shoot him. Obviously anyone who fights another person with his fists deserves to be put down.
    .
You yourself seem to be counting the experiences you have where ‘you would’ve got em with your gun’, which you think is some kind of argument on behalf of the victims but really it just makes you look like the unstable one ready to attack people.

Moronfly…thanks for expressing your misguided thoughts. I am a combat experienced veteran and a retired law enforcement officer from one of the more cime infested states in the nation (California). Rest assured that I am not a “trigger-happy wazoo neighbor” and I really do not care if you view me as the “unstable one ready to attack people”. However, having expressed your views, I have witnessed what a person looks like after being beat by a shovel handle, axe handle, baseball bat, etc., beleive me it is not a pretty sight. I would truely hope that you should never experience such an attack. I must agree with you that your post name fits you very well. Have a good day.

“Obviously anyone who fights another person with his fists deserves to be put down.” I don’t know where Moronfly has been, but I’m pretty sure there are many examples of people using said fists to beat people to death in the recent past… not to mention shovel handles and other forms of weapons. And when is breaking into someone’s house and beating them with a shovel handle considered “fighting”? And then chasing down a woman and beating her? As a CCW permit holder and often a gun-toting trigger happy wazoo, I certainly would have taken steps to “neutralize the situation” from the furthest distance possible.

Remember, guns don’t kill people… shovel handles kill people.

Really? People look bad after being busted up with shovels and baseball bats? Never would’ve thought, nor do I draw the correlation in your arguments between the use of these and a random third party shooting someone in the spine or head with their gun. CCW permits are fun and dandy and all, but the people who brag them off for story by saying “IF I’ER AT THAT DER HOMER DERPOT 10 MINS PRIOR” and then following up with a statement that they would’ve shot unarmed people, then yeah, the CCW people look like trigger happy wazoos.
