ST. GEORGE – In a featured discussion on the history of the Grand Canyon, Dixie State College Associate Professor of Geology, Pete VanValkenburg, will share his research on the matter in his presentation, “The Geological History of the Grand Canyon.”

The discussion will be hosted by DSC’s President’s Colleagues of DSC at their meeting on Monday, Nov. 7, at noon, in Room 156 of the DSC Russell C. Taylor Health Science Center of the Dixie Regional Medical Center’s River Road campus. DRMC is located at 1526 Medical Center Drive.

The meeting is free and open to the public.

VanValkenburg serves as chair of DSC’s Physical Science Department, He received his bachelor’s degree in earth science from Brigham Young University in 1984, and completed his master’s degree from Northern Arizona University in 1988.

The President’s Colleagues of DSC, founded nearly 20 years ago by former DSC President Dr. Douglas Alder, is a group of retired professors and other professionals who live mostly in the Washington County area. Dr. Alder, who also started an Honors Program at DSC, organized the Colleagues as a way to increase academic activities on campus. 

The Colleagues meet together once a month during the academic year to hear presentations from each other and/or invited guests.
