ST. GEORGE –  Officers arrested a 24-year-old St. George woman earlier this evening for falsely claiming several people had been shot by an unknown assailant.

“At approximately 5:30 P.M emergency dispatchers with St. George Police Department received a 911 call from a female reporting three individuals had just been shot in a shed in the back yard at 35 W. 300 S. by an unknown assailant; however, it was later determined this report was false and no one was in fact injured,” Det. Johnny Heppler said in a released statement.

Officers had arrived on scene and secured the perimeter of the residence, causing panic in the neighborhood.

“Contact was made right away with one of the residents of the home who indicated no one was injured and no criminal activity was under way,” he said.

“The remainder of the occupants of the home came outside at the request of officers and were all accounted for, including the female who was the original caller. We found them all to be in good health and free from injury.”

Heppler said there were no weapons and no gunshots had been fired. Officers conducted a search of the shed and found no evidence of criminal activity had taken place, aside from the false report.

“Family members indicated the female may be under the influence of a controlled substance causing her mental state to suffer,” he said.

The woman was arrested and booked into the Washington County Jail for 911 Abuse, Disorderly Conduct, and False Report.
