Warriors must win to stay alive; Flyers win and clinch a playoff spot

ST. GEORGE – It’s a must-win for both the Dixie Flyers (6-2, 3-2) and the Snow Canyon Warriors (2-5, 1-3) tonight at 7 p.m. at Dixie High School.

If the Flyers win, they will lock up a playoff spot and at the very worst be a 3-seed in the playoffs and could move up as high as the 2-seed with two Desert Hill’s losses to end the season.

The Warriors have to win to stay alive, if they lose; their playoff hopes are done. The Warriors also have to win the following week against Pine View to get into the playoff picture. Even then, they would not be in for sure because Cedar also has two wins and could finish in the three-way tie for third, fourth and fifth.

Dixie has the leading passer in the Region, Blake Barney, and he will look to pick apart the Warrior defense that has given up 27 points per game and 130.1 passing yards per game this season.

Snow Canyon has the second leading passer in the Region in quarterback Brayden Linde. Look for Linde and the Warriors to open it up a lot more with the season on the line tonight against the Flyers. The Flyers defense does give up over 150 yards passing per game second worst in the Region.

It’s going to come down to who’s defensive backs can come up with the most stops.
