NEW HARMONY – The volunteer firefighters of the Harmony Valley Fire District will benefit from the New Harmony Apple Festival this year.

The Apple Fest not only celebrates the apple harvest this year, but will also raise funds for the local volunteer firefighters and the fire station.

“If we didn’t have them, we’d have a lot of problems,” said Linda Pace, the secretary-treasurer of the Harmony Valley Volunteer Fire Association.

Money raised at the Apple Fest will go to updating and maintaining equipment for the volunteer firefighters.

Among the activities featured at the Apple Fest will be: pie eating contests, live bands, a bake sale and prize raffles.

“We have tons and tons of prizes this year,” Pace said.

Up to 40 venders will also be present at the Apple Fest.

The volunteer fire department will also give a vehicle extrication demonstration for festival attendees.

A multitude of freshly harvested apples will also be in attendance.

The New Harmony Apple Fest will be held on Saturday, October 15, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

“It’s a lot of fun,” Pace said.
