SALT LAKE CITY – Saturday afternoon, the Arizona State Sun Devils were in Salt Lake City to take on the Utah Utes.

This critical match up was the last real chance the Utes had at making a run for the PAC 12 title. The game was close and contested for three quarters, but at the end of the game the Utes weren’t able to overcome the myriad of turnovers. They turned the ball over five times including three in the second half. Arizona State, who didn’t turn the ball over the entire game, scored 22 of their 25 second half points off turnovers to win 35-14.

Despite two first half interceptions by Utah quarterback Jon Hays, Utah kept it close early. They were down 10-7 at half time.

On their first drive of the third quarter Hays engineered a 79-yard touchdown drive which included a 19-yard pass to Reggie Dunn and a 46-yard pass to Kenneth Scott to take a 10-14 lead.

On their next possession the Sun Devils drove 55 yards to set up a 35-yard field goal to bring it to 13-14.

On the first play of Utah’s drive, John White IV fumbled the ball and five plays later ASU turned it into 8 points. On the next play Hays threw an interception and three plays later ASU scored a touchdown. On the fifth play of their next drive, Hays completed a pass to Reggie Dunn who then fumbled the ball and 10 plays later ASU scored another touchdown to make it 35-14.

The Utes hope to bounce back next week when they go across the country to face the University of Pittsburgh.
