ST. GEORGE – After a preliminary hearing on Oct. 3, Rudy Gomez’s case will go to trial.

Brian Filter, the county attorney overseeing the Gomez case, said the judge ruled there was enough evidence to proceed with a trial. Gomez’s pretrial is scheduled for Jan. 19, 2012, with a tentative trial date of Feb. 6-8, 2012.

Gomez was arrested in July on three counts of alleged aggravated sexual abuse of a child in July, 2011. (See story here)

If convicted, Filter said, Gomes faces a minimum sentence of six years to life in prison. The maximum sentence he could receive is life in prison for each count of aggravated sexual abuse.

* Persons accused are presumed innocent unless found guilty in a court of law.
