brandon mull comes to st. george utahST. GEORGE – New York Times bestselling author Brandon Mull will be at the Barnes and Noble bookstore on Oct. 10 for a book signing event.

Mull may best be known for his Fablehaven series. The story takes readers into a modern day world where creatures of fantasy and myth still exist, albeit in hidden, mystic refuges. The central characters are Kendra and Seth, a pair of young siblings who discover that their grandfather is the caretaker of one such mystic refuge – a refuge called Fablehaven.

“It’s definitely a good series,” Barnes & Noble employee Thomas Arnone said.

Charlotte Emett, also a Barnes & Noble employee, said that the Fablehaven books were among the top three young adult titles she would personally recommend to potential readers.

“It’s one of our bestselling kids’ books,” Emett said. “They are really well-written.”

Emett also said if readers liked the Percy Jackson or Harry Potter series, then they would also enjoy Fablehaven.

Fablehaven is not the only thing Mull has written. He wrote the stand-alone book The Candy Shop War, as well as the recently released Beyonders: A World Without Heroes.

Mull is a currently a resident of northern Utah and a graduate of Brigham Young University. According to his website, Mull dreamt of being a novelist since he was a boy. He kept his dream a secret for many years, however. In time, he decided to act on his long held desire to produce literary adventures and turned a dream into a reality. He would ultimately produce his first full-length novel, which was repeatedly rejected by many perspective publishers.

One publisher did see some promise in Mull’s work, yet wanted to see something else. That something else Mull gave the publisher was the first volume of the Fablehaven series.

“Fablehaven surpassed my expectations with how quickly it found an audience,” Mull wrote on his website.

The subsequent success of the first Fablehaven book allowed Mull to quit his day job and become a fulltime author.

Mull will be at the Barnes & Noble bookstore at the Red Cliffs Mall in St. George on Monday, Oct. 10, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
