UPDATE: Middle schooler uninjured in motorcycle vs. bus collision

HURRICANE – A middle schooler survived a motorcycle accident on Friday morning while riding on the bike of her dad’s bike.

Launi Schmutz, Washington County School District transportation director, said the child was wearing a helmet when the motorcycle she was riding on the back of collided with the school bus. Schmutz said she did not know if the bus hit the motorcycle or if the bike hit the school bus.

Nancy Perkins, spokeswoman for the Hurricane Police Department, said the bus driver was issued a citation for the accident. Perkins said the the bus driver pulled out in front of the motorcycle.

Schmutz said the child was not seriously injured, and her father received minor injuries. The accident occurred near Hurricane Middle School before school began.
