ST. GEORGE – The officials of the Huntsman World Senior Games have hosted contests and other events throughout the year in anticipation of the games that officially begin Oct. 3.
Since January of this year, HWSG officials have hosted weekly trivia contests on their website to help the public get engaged with this year’s special 25th anniversary games.
The ultimate prize for the pre-game contests is a lifetime membership that will be awarded to 25 early registration participants, said Chief Executive Officer Kyle Case.
This prize allows the winner to register for future HWSG events at no cost. The ultimate prize winners will be posted on seniorgames.net and at the Dixie Convention Center, 1835 S. Convention Center Drive, which is considered the game headquarters.
“We invite every person to come to the open ceremonies held on Oct. 4 at the Hansen Stadium,” Case said. “There will be a parade of athletes, singing and dancing, and an expanded fireworks presentation in honor of the 25th anniversary.”
The opening ceremony is free to the public, and seven- time Olympic Medalist Shannon Miller is the guest speaker for the evening’s events.
To prepare for this year’s games, officials have featured a respected member of the staff on their website. The spotlighted person is someone who has contributed to making the games.
“We have featured 25 people who make the games possible through small ways or big ways on the [seniorgames.net] website.” Case said. “We will wrap that up just before the games start.”
During the games, members of the officiating staff will award participants with a small token he or she can keep in celebration of the 25 year anniversary. For example, if a participant throws a javelin 125 feet he or she will be rewarded a token from the sport official. The token will we rewarded basically for anything pertaining to the number 25, Case said.
Also, held on Oct. 11 is an event where The Bellamy Brothers are the headlining act. The concert will be at the Burns Arena. Tickets can be purchased now for $12 at dixie.ticket.edu or by calling 652-7800. Ticket prices on the day of the concert are $15.
