ST GEORGE – Cedar Redman quarterback John Ursua rushed for 139 yards and three rushing touchdowns in a 53-35 win over the Snow Canyon Warriors. Ursua also scored on a 20-yard interception return for a touchdown.
Ursua was one of three Redman players to rush for 100 yards. Running back Hayden Bishop ran for 136 yards and one touchdown, and Alec Jordan ran for 102 yards and two touchdowns for the Redman.
Jordan started the scoring with a 21 yard touchdown run, Ursua scored the next two touchdowns and Jordan added his second touchdown to make the score 27-0.
For the second week in a row, the Snow Canyon Warriors fell behind by four touchdowns. Warrior’s quarterback Brayden Linde led an 80-yard scoring drive that ended with a 19-yard touchdown pass to Cooper Robinson right before the half.
After the Warrior defense recovered a fumble on the first drive of the third quarter, Linde threw his second touchdown pass, again to Robinson to make the score 14-27.
On the very next play, the Redman took the air right out of the Warrior sails scoring on an 80-yard run play by Bishop to put the Redman up 34-14.
Another problem for the Warriors was turnovers; they had four, two interceptions and two fumbles. Ursua’s interception return for a touchdown in the middle of the third quarter put the game out of reach, making the score 41-14.
On the ensuing kickoff, Snow Canyon’s Davis Anderson ran 86 yards to the end zone to try and give the Warriors hope, bringing the Redman lead to 19 at 41-22.
Again, like many times before, the Redman offense scored on its first play, with a run for an 80-yard touchdown by Ursua. The touchdown was Ursua’s fourth of the night. The Redman would add another touchdown late in the fourth quarter to make the score 53-22.
On the kickoff, and up by 31 points, the Redman kicked an onside kick. The Warriors recovered the kick and many of the Warrior coaches did not understand why the Redman would kick an onside kick with only 3:00 left.
After the kickoff Warrior quarterback Brayden Linde rounded up his players and told them they could not quit, to end on a good note and bring momentum to the next game. Linde led the Warriors on a 45-yard scoring driving ending with a 25-yard pass to Kallan Webster. Webster, the Warriors junior tight end, ended the game with 42 yards receiving to go along with his touchdown catch.
This time it was the Warriors turn to kick an onside kick. And, like the Redman did three times last week, they did not recover the kick giving the Warriors the ball at the 50-yard line. Building on the momentum of the last drive, Linde dropped back and hit Cooper Robinson for a 43-yard touchdown.
The touchdown was Robinson’s third of the game. Robinson caught only three balls all night, all three were touchdowns and Robinson finished with 90 yards. Receiver Ben Smith also had a big game, coming up with three third and long catches.
Our MVP’s for the game were Cedar quarterback John Ursua and Snow Canyon quarterback Brayden Linde. Ursua finished with 83 passing yards and 139 rushing yards with the three rushing touchdowns. Linde threw for 175 yards and four touchdowns.
Next week Snow Canyon hosts Desert Hills and Cedar welcomes Dixie. Both games are scheduled to kick at 7 p.m.
