Flyers take on Thunder with second place on the line

ST. GEORGE – The Desert Hills Thunder (4-1, 2-0) take on the Dixie Flyers (4-1, 1-1) tonight at Desert Hills High School at 7 p.m.

This will be a classic offense vs. defense battle. The Thunder have the best defense in the Region, only allowing 8.8 points per game and 188 yards per game. On the other hand, the Flyers have the second best offense in the Region, scoring 41 points per game with just under 400 yards per game.

Offensively, it will be the Thunder run vs. the Flyer pass. Desert Hills is led by running back Mike Needham, who averages an outstanding 10.21 yards per carry and 116.4 yards per game.

Quarterback Blake Barney and running back Justin Cummings lead the Flyer offense. Barney is the Regions leading passer with 1,324 yards on the season and 15 touchdowns. Cummings has scored six rushing touchdowns.

It will be interesting to see how the Flyers come in tonight coming off their first loss of the season last week, while the Thunder are on a roll winning four straight.

Pat’s Pick: Desert Hills
