SPRINGDALE – With the natural beauty of Zion Canyon as its backdrop, the Zion Canyon Musical Festival kicks off its third year with a fun-filled weekend the whole family can enjoy.

Presented by the town of Springdale and the Zion Canyon Brewing Company, the music festival will feature a plethora of musical genres including Americana, county, blues, jazz, funk, R&B, soul, and rock.

“Expect a lot of great food and a family atmosphere,” said Jon Smith, the host of the Jon Smith Show on the Hawk 95.9 FM.

Jon Smith will be broadcasting live from the music festival for the Hawk on Saturday, Sept. 24. Smith will be following Marty Lane, a personality heard on KONY County 99.9 FM, who will be broadcasting on Friday, Sept. 23.

It will be Smith’s first time at the music festival, and he said he is excited to be attending. He is especially looking forward to the jazz bands.

The theme of the 2011 Zion Canyon Music Festival is “Leave No Trace.” Proceeds from the event will go to Springdale’s solar power project and the development of renewable energy resources in Southern Utah.

Admission to the music festival is free, and takes place on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 23-24, in Springdale. Performances start at 4 p.m. on both days.
