Warriors shutout Falcons

Snow Canyon High School

CEDAR CITY – The Snow Canyon Warriors (2-2, 1-0) talked all week in practice about shutting down the Canyon View Falcons (2-2, 0-2) running game. Shut it down they did, holding the Falcons to scoreless in a 38-0 Warrior victory.

The Snow Canyon defense did not give up a first down until the middle of the second quarter and only gave up 39 yards in the first half. Tavish Nelson and Ben Gottfredson led the way with a handful of sacks and constant pressure in the backfield.

Brayden Linde showed why he is one of the best quarterbacks in the Region, throwing three touchdowns to three different receivers. Linde hit Connor Livingston with a 62-yard bomb on the fourth play of the game and the Warriors were off and running from there.  Linde also connected with Daniel Schumacher on a 4-yard pass right before the half and Jace Graft on a 14-yard strike in the fourth quarter.

Canyon View is known for their running game but leading rusher Dakota Marshall missed the game due to a collar bone injury. The Warriors on the other hand ran all over the Falcon defense, Mitch Phillips ran for 172 yards and a touchdown. Brandon McFarland also found pay dirt on a two yard dive.

Jorge Benavides connected on a 21-yard field goal and three extra points.

The Warriors travel to play the No. 1 ranked Hurricane Tigers next week; and Canyon View will travel outside the Region to play Ogden. Both games start at 7 p.m.
