GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – A ninth-minute goal by Mindi Beckstrom gave Dixie State a lead early Saturday, but No. 6 Fort Lewis used a pair of second half goals to win a non-conference match 3-1.

The Red Storm (1-3) took seven shots, but were outmatched by the nationally ranked Skyhawks (3-0), who took 13 shots.

A corner from Camille Jensen set up Beckstrom’s score. The initial kick was headed over to Beckstrom from Lauren Minnick.

Fort Lewis found the equalizer in the 42nd minute when Elena Benavides was left unchecked and found the ball off a corner kick.

The game-winner came in the second half – Emma Cannis found the right side of the net after the ball was knocked out of April Beck’s hand.

“A player knocked it out and they knocked it in,” said head coach Linda Huddleston.

FLC added an insurance goal eight minutes later.

Beck allowed two of the goals, while Abby Johnson surrendered the third.

DSC ends a three-match trip to Colorado on Monday at 11 a.m. The Red Strom face Colorado Christian in its final non-conference match of the year.
