ST. GEORGE – A concerned resident helped stop a vehicle burglar this morning after noticing a man peering into car windows.

Capt. James Van Fleet said a woman called police just before 3 a.m. and said a man may be breaking into vehicles on Mulberry in Bloomington. Officers arrived in the area and witnessed a 19-year-old male appearing into several cars.

Van Fleet said officers stopped the man, who then allegedly admitted to breaking into cars that were unlocked or had the windows rolled down. Officers recovered several items, including iPods and cash. He said the officers spent the remainder of the evening finding the victims and returning the stolen items.

Van Fleet cautions all residents about leaving their cars unlocked. He said the suspect was looking for crimes of opportunity.
