IVINS – You might think the nearest production of “Annie” is “maybe far away,” but it is actually “real near by.”

“Annie” will be performed by the Ivins Children’s Musical Theater Company this Friday and Saturday, Aug. 19 and 20, at 7 p.m. at Vista School in Ivins, 585 E. Center Street.

Tickets may be purchased at the door for $5. Group discounts are available for groups of ten or more. Contact information is given at the close of this article.

The ICMTC is comprised of 5-14-year-old children. These children rehearse once a week for an hour and a half.

This full-length musical will definitely impress, with songs such as “It’s a Hard Knock Life,” “Tomorrow,” and “You’re Never Fully Dressed without a Smile.”

The Company is directed by Teresa Hill-Putnam. Putnam is the owner and director of Spotlight Performing Arts Center in Santa Clara. She has been teaching and directing for over 25 years, and has directed the ICMTC for six years. Putnam also offers classes in ballet, pointe, tap, jazz, tumbling, vocal performance and, of course, musical theater.

The main characters in this show will be played by: Max Wiltbank, 14, of Ivins, as Oliver Warbucks; Brooklyn Richins, 11, of Ivins, and Alissa Dover, 10, of Santa Clara, as Annie; Jessica Jaeger, 14, of Ivins, as Ms. Hanningan; Amber Putnam, 7, of St. George, as Molly; and Sariah Backer, 13, of St. George, as Grace Farrell. Cast 1 will perform on Friday night, Cast 2 will perform on Saturday night.

“These children are talented beyond their years,” said Putnam.

The next production the Company will be “The Lion King.” Auditions will be held on August 25 at 4:30 p.m. at the Unity Park Recreation Building in Ivins. Children ages five and older of all ability levels are encouraged to audition.

Rehearsals for The Lion King will be held Thursdays from 4-5:30 p.m. for 15 weeks. Cost for the program is $150.  Pre-registration is required through Ivins City.

“We hope to see you there!” said Putnam.

If this musical is as great as all of the others that Ms. Putnam has directed, don’t miss it! She brings out the best in the children that she works with!!
