Charges Dropped in Sexual Exploitation Case

Ivins Man Arrested on Five Counts of Sexual Exploitation of a Minor
Ronald Craig Nelson

ST. GEORGE – An Ivins man who was arrested in mid-June on five counts of sexual exploitation of a minor had those charges dropped today.

Prosecuting Attorney Brian Filter said his office is dropping the charges against Ronald Craig Nelson after receiving a forensic report on Nelson’s computer.

“Having now received and reviewed that report, it does not appear that there is sufficient evidence to support the charges in the case,” Filter said. “I have consulted with the detective in the case, and we are in agreement that, given the evidence, or lack thereof, we have no choice but to dismiss the case at this time.”

Little is known about what led to the arrest of Nelson. A preliminary hearing had previously been rescheduled as the state waited for the results of the forensics test.
