LAKE POWELL / FLAGSTAFF, AZ – Ammon Puriri, 18, son of Rakaipaka and Laninina Puriri of St. George, is at Flagstaff Medical Center, undergoing multiple surgeries after a serious boating accident on Lake Powell July 26.
Ammon went to Lake Powell with the family of a close friend of his. Lani Puriri, said “he was on a jet ski. Somehow he ended up in the water and was run over by a boat. The propeller caught his lower right leg and foot.”
Ammon was transported by Life Flight to the Flagstaff Medical Center in Arizona.
“When he arrived he had lost about 2 and 1/2 quarts of blood. Thanks to the amazing surgeons, they were able to save his leg versus amputating it…,” said Karamea Puriri, Ammon’s sister posting on the family blog.
The Puriri family is in need of assistance as multiple surgeries are expected and physical therapy is certain.
Donations may be made through a website set up expressly for this purpose, Donate to the Puriri Family.
Updates on Ammon will be posted daily on the Puriri Family Blog.

We were parked up the same canyon at the time of your accident and listening to the reports on he marine radio and hoping that you would be okay and not lose your leg or worse. We are a lot of strangers to you (17 of us) but we are relieved at the outcome so far and will be praying for your quick and complete recovery. ZD
