HARRISBURG – Firefighters are working on a large fire that was started earlier this evening alongside Interstate 15 on the south side of the Harrisburg Trailer Court near Leeds.
Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Dan Ferguson said the frontage road was closed but I-15 remained open as they battled the blaze.
Ferguson said the fire is believed to be human caused so far, but he is unsure how it started. Washington County Safety states it is currently at 200 acres.
Ferguson said it started close to the road, and is burning on the mountainside heading towards the road from Harrisburg to Quail Lake.
Currently, the fire is not considered to be out of control, but it is also not contained.

We were camping at Quail Creek Reservoir. They came by at 11 pm and told us they had the fire entirely under control but were going to do a controlled backburn of the hillside. It would look scary, but be entirely under control. We went to sleep in our tents and were awoken hours later to an entire hillside in flames. I wish I’d had a camera. It was crazy insane. I woke up terrified and my hubby had to remind me that we were told it would look like that. We laid in the tent for and hour watching the fire before we went back to sleep. At 7 am we woke up and it looked as if nothing had happened. Crazy.
