Dixie State College’s Phi Beta Lambda Business Club Students Earn Top Honors at National Conference

ST. GEORGE – Ten members of Dixie State College’s business club,  Phi Beta Lambda, competed against more than 1,700 participants from around the country in June at the Future Business Leaders of America Phi Beta Lambda National Leadership Conference in Orlando, Florida.

The annual conference allows collegiate business students to sharpen their core business skills, expand their networks, and participate in business related competitive events.

Of the 10 members who competed, 8 received national recognition by finishing in the top ten of their events, including 7 who finished in the top three.

Collegiate junior Sam Reber, of Santa Clara, Utah, sophomore Eli Baird, of Salt Lake City, Utah, and freshman John Holfeltz, of  West Jordan, Utah, teamed up to win first place in Digital Video Production.

Sophomore Bryan Poulsen, of Hurricane, Utah, junior Cody Olsen , of West Jordan, Utah, and junior Dan Gibson, of Price, Utah, finished second in Website Design.

Collegiate junior Brody Mikesell, of Henefer, Utah, finished third in Impromptu Speaking; and junior James Rutledge, of Kearns, Utah, finished seventh in Contemporary Sports Issues.

“I am very proud of the way our students represented themselves; they all worked extremely hard in preparing for their events,” said PBL adviser and business adjunct Kent Brown.

“These competitions allow students an opportunity for valuable hands-on experience. We have some amazing students at Dixie State,” said Brown.

In addition to the competitions, students immersed themselves in educational workshops, visited an information-packed exhibit hall, and listened to motivational keynote speakers on a broad range of business topics.
