WASHINGTON D.C. – A new poll by Public Policy Polling shows that Rep. Jim Matheson would just barely defeat Sen. Orrin Hatch 45-44 percent if Matheson were to run against him in the Senate elections, and would defeat Rep. Jason Chaffetz by 47-42 percent.

Utah, who said Hatch has been more to the right than ever since Sen. Bob Bennett was eliminated at the 2010 GOP convention, reported the poll. However, Utah Policy reports that Hatch’s approval rating is still below 50 percent.

When asked whether he would consider a run for Senate, Matheson’s office told St. George News, “He is keeping all his options open but not making any announcements at this time.”

Sure would like to see Chaffetz give Hatch a run at it. We do need new “youngblood” in the Senate. Matheson has also been in DC for a while too. Chaffetz is still more to the right than Hatch is and is considered a strong fiscal conservative. I think Utah would benefit from Chaffetz in the Senate.

Hatch has changed his face on immigration so many times that no one really knows his position, including himself. Utah needs new hard line conservative representation, not some lost soul changing his mind everytime he wakes up. Utahn,s are mighty fond of their culture, Bennett forgot where he was from and we responded accordingly. You’re next Hatch!
