Driver in Hit-and-Run Identified

ST. GEORGE – Marva Cutler’s condition is critical but improving after sustaining injuries as a result of a traffic collision where she was struck by a vehicle last week at 3100 South Little Valley Rd. The driver of the vehicle involved in the crash has been identified as 22-year-old Marilu Angel.

Detectives with the St. George Police Department Investigations Division along with the department’s Accident Reconstruction Team are continuing to analyze and evaluate evidence and other information to determine potential charges in this case. Damage to Marilu’s vehicle is consistent with the circumstances of the collision and matches evidence located at the scene. Additionally, detectives have confirmed Marilu was in fact driving the vehicle at the time of the crash.

Early on, this incident was being investigated as a hit and run so officials requested the public’s assistance in locating and identifying the driver and the vehicle. However, investigators have since learned Marilu was at the scene of the accident but did not initially disclose she had been involved.

Search warrants and subpoenas have been ordered on records belonging to Marilu to verify claims she may have been suffering from a medical condition at the time of the accident. The extent of injury to the victim is another key component of determining the appropriate charges to file on the driver of the vehicle and must be conclusive prior to making an arrest. Both the outcome of the examination of the records once they are acquired and the precise extent of the victim’s injuries could take several weeks or months but are in progress.

Investigators are in regular contact with the victim in this case to monitor her condition and level of injury, as it will ultimately establish not only the severity of the charges, but the jurisdiction responsible for the prosecution of the case. Likewise, we have Marilu’s information and fully expect to be able to contact her when needed.
