Washington City New Fire Restrictions

WASHINGTON – Due to current and forecasted weather conditions, coupled with the extremely dry condition and heavy loading of vegetation in southwestern Utah, the State of Utah Department of Natural Resources, Division of Forestry, Fire and State lands has closed all unincorporated private and state lands within the State of Utah located in Washington County to certain prohibited acts.

These same weather and vegetation conditions exist in the Urban/Wildland Interface (WUI) areas located within Washington City limits. Therefore, until rescinded by the Washington City Public Safety Department, the following acts are prohibited in the areas described below:

Kindling, maintaining or authorizing the kindling or maintaining of any open fire of any kind except those fire authorized as recreational fires kindled or maintained in permanently improved places of habitation; i.e., backyard fire pits.
Discharging or using any kind of fireworks, pyrotechnic or otherwise incendiary devices. Cutting, welding or grinding metal or other spark producing operations within 30 feet of dry vegitation. Mowing or otherwise cutting dry vegetation after 10:00 a.m.

The following persons are exempted from the above prohibitions:

Persons holding a specific permit authorizing an otherwise prohibited act. Any State, Local or Federal Fire Officer or fire fighting forces in the performance of an official duty.

Area description: All areas within the incorporated limits of Washington City except the following two (2) locations that are provided for the purpose of lighting legal, consumer fireworks: EXCEPTION: The discharge or use of any aerial fireworks is prohibited.

A. In the CLEARLY MARKED area of the parking lot at the Washington Ball Field Complex next to the soccer field (off of Community Center Drive).

B. In the CLEARLY MARKED area of the parking lot at the East entrance of Pine View Park. (2050 S Alveo Drive) Metal barrels will be placed at the fireworks discharge locations for spent fireworks. Please do not place them in dumpsters or plastic trash receptacles.

Effective 12:01 A.M. MDT 25th day of June 2011 Violation of prohibited acts will be prosecuted under the law.
