Hurricane Man Arrested After Allegedly Trying to Run Down La Verkin Officer With His Car

LA VERKIN – Officers arrested a 27-year-old Hurricane male after he allegedly tried to run down an officer with his car.
Chief Lloyd Watkins said the La Verkin City officer tried to pull the man over after allegedly witnessing the man make an illegal U-Turn and drive aggressively. Watkins said the suspect accelerated when the officer tried to pull him over.
The officer followed the suspect into a subdivision that was a dead end, at which time; the suspect allegedly turned around and drove at the officer, Watkins said. The officer was able to get out of the way and followed the suspect into Toquerville. Watkins said the suspect again went onto a dead end road, and again allegedly turned around and drove at the officer.
Watkins said the officer followed the man into a construction zone where the man pulled over and surrendered without incident. Watkins said the man had allegedly been drinking and was three times the legal limit.
The man was arrested and charged with DUI, improper lane travel, failure to stop, speed in a construction zone, two counts of aggravated assault, reckless driving and evading.
