Second Hurricane Fire Burns 23 Acres

HURRICANE – Hurricane Valley Fire SSD responded to the report of a brush fire at 4300 West State Street Hurricane, Utah at 2:47 p.m. Workers were cutting metal pipe with a saw, causing the surrounding brush to catch fire.

Fire crews arrived to find approximately five acres actively burning and winds in excess of 15 mph.  The fire was blown from the point of origin toward SR-9 and extended to the Virgin River.  Fire crews were able to keep the fire away from three structures in the fire area, power lines and SR-9.

The fire was contained at 7:01 p.m. with approximately 23 acres burned. Crews continue on scene extinguishing any hot areas of the fire.  There were no reported injuries or structure damage.

Crews from Hurricane, Utah State FFSL and the BLM assisted in the fire suppression.

A fire near Sand Hollow yesterday evening burned 58 acres in Hurricane.
