ST. GEORGE – As part of its second-annual youth Castle Rock Music Camp, Dixie State College’s music department is presenting a pair of free June concerts highlighting some of the most talented youth and faculty performers in the state and region. Both concerts will take place in the Dolores Dore’ Eccles Fine Arts Center Concert Hall on the DSC campus.
The first concert will take place on Tuesday, June 7, at 7 p.m., and will feature performances by a number of DSC music department faculty members, including department chair Glenn Webb, director of string studies Dr. Paul Abegg, assistant professor of piano studies Dr. Nancy Allred, music instructor and cellist Jim Hardy, and Debbie Thornton, along with a number of teaching assistants.
The second concert is scheduled for Friday, June 10 at 6 p.m. The concert will showcase the talents of the camp students, ranging in age from 12-to-18 years old, who will show off their skills learned after three days of intensive training.
According to Dr. Abegg, the DSC Castle Rock Music Camp was created for junior high and high school-age string and percussion instrument students as a way to enhance their musical talents, while receiving personalized instruction taught by members of DSC’s music faculty. The camp runs from June 7-10, will welcome students from across Utah, Idaho and Nevada.
