Summer Beauty Tips from Local Beauties

It’s summertime in Southern Utah and that means it’s time to get out and play – and look beautiful while doing it. We asked local Southern Utah beauties their tips to feeling great this summer.

What fabulous things are essential in your travel bag?
My “must-haves” when I travel are:
-My little black dress.  It’s very versatile depending on the accessories.  It can be worn out for events in the evenings or dressed down for daytime.
-A fabulous hat for my “island hair” when I travel to a tropical destination.   It looks great with a sundress and fashionable for a day at the beach.

What do you do to look younger and feel beautiful?
My fashion sense reflects my free spirit in that it is a bit bohemian sophisticate (how’s that for an oxymoron) with a splash of red carpet or Birkenstock depending on the occasion. Denim and diamonds. You won’t see me squeezing into a short mini skirt that shows a little more than others might want to see, but you will find me wearing thigh high boots.

I love the sun…and it shows. Growing up on the Indian Reservation along the Colorado River my days were spent in the water or on my motorcycle. I’m still in the water, hiking, or on my ATV. I discovered Glymed products a year ago though, and they have changed how I feel about taking care of my skin. I have a little daily routine that keeps my skin moisturized and works great with liquid make-up.

How can women boost their confidence?
When you stop looking for beauty in the label on the back of your pants or in a jar or magic cream. When you embrace your life lines as a positive and not a negative …When you love your journey and let the wisdom of your life shine bright. I love me and it shows! Trust and love yourself with hope and happiness!

What common mistakes should women avoid that might make them end up looking “silly?”
Just because they make it in your size DOES NOT mean you should wear it! I am not a teeny girl, so dressing for MY body type is key. Wearing a low riding pair of jeans if you have extra hips will cause you to moon the world when you drop your keys, and that will make you look silly!

What homemade beauty remedy did you learn from your mom?
Steeped tea bags on a sunburn – the tannic acid counteracts the burn.  I can remember many a long beach day with my girlfriends (this was before the days of sunscreens and we were not interested in being smeared in white zinc oxide) followed by my mom plastering tea bags all over us while we moaned and groaned over the pain of the burn . . . they helped!
