HURRICANE – A four-year-old was rushed to the hospital Friday after he fell from his parent’s vehicle while traveling 55 mph on State Route 9.

Police Spokesperson Nancy Perkins said the child was not in a car seat and was instead restrained by the vehicle’s rear seat belt. The child unbuckled himself and opened the door, she said. The accident occurred around 7 p.m. near the Lava Bluff subdivision at 3900 West.

Perkins said the child was conscious and crying when medical personnel arrived and suffered a broken collar bone.

Perkins did not say whether the parents received a citation for not buckling the child in a child safety seat.
