ST. GEORGE – The DOVE Center would like to extend a gracious thank you to the community, our sponsors, and business partners for making our first DOVE Center Spring Charity Event an inspiring success. Over 200 people attended a private charity dinner with Greg Mortenson and over 1000 community members attended his lectures at Cox Auditorium.  We would also like to extend a special thank you to Dixie State College for their support in hosting the lectures and dinner.

Audiences had the opportunity to hear Greg Mortenson’s remarkable stories of determination in promoting peace through education. He is responsible for building over 170 schools, most of them for girls, in devastated war zones in Afghanistan and Pakistan.  Mortenson documented his journeys in the NY Times bestsellers Three Cups of Tea and Stones into Schools.  He has demonstrated that, one person can make a difference in the life of another, giving his audience the inspiration to assist the underserved in their own community, nation, and around the world.

Students from Coral Canyon Elementary, Hurricane Intermediate, and Riverside Elementary from the Washington County School District participated in raising money for the Pennies for Peace campaign. The schools donated a total of $3522.21 through their Pennies for Peace drive. Thank you to these schools for helping students in far off places to have the opportunity to learn.

Thank you to the DOVE Circle of Friends for their vision and determination in making our first Spring Charity event a reality. This past December 2010, the Board of Trustees felt it was essential along with our safe-shelter housing facility to establish a separate facility for non-shelter domestic violence and rape recovery victims. The DOVE Center now has this much needed new facility, thanks in part to the Circle of Friends and their efforts.  Monies raised will help support our new facility and educational programs.

The DOVE Center’s mission is to provide safe shelter, advocacy and education for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.  In supporting safe homes within our community we too hope to inspire peace across the globe.  If you would like to assist the DOVE Center in its efforts you can send your financial donations to 1240 E 100 S Bldg 22, Ste 221, St. George, UT 84790.
