Dixie State College to Present Woodwind Chamber Spring Concert April 12

ST. GEORGE – Dixie State College of Utah’s Department of Music presents the second woodwind chamber concert of the 2010-11 performance season on Tuesday, April 12, at 7:30 p.m., at the DSC Dolores Dore’ Eccles Fine Arts Center Concert Hall.

The woodwind ensemble consists of three performance groups, the Flute Choir, under the direction of Ami Porter, and the Saxaphone Ensemble, led by DSC music faculty member Rhonda Rhodes. In addition, the newly formed Southwest Symphony Woodwind Quintent will make its debut, which consists of four members of the DSC Music Faculty, including Porter on flute, Rhodes on oboe and English horn, Greg Johnston on clarinet, and Shanan Arslanian on bassoon. The quintet, which will perform works by Percy Grainger and Bach, also features Hayley Winslow, a local music teacher who will play the French horn.

The Saxophone Ensemble, which features student performances on the soprano, alto, tenor and baritone saxophones, will perform a variety of numbers spanning a wide range of music history and styles, including a classic tune by The Beatles.

General admission tickets for each concert will be available at the door for $5 for adults and $1 for DSC students and faculty and staff with current ID.
