Local couples who are stuck in the perpetual dating rut may think they have to take the same old “dinner-and-a-movie” route, but there are many other fun alternatives around St. George that can be pursued.

The first suggestion that comes to mind would have to be not acting your age for once. Be a kid again for the day and head somewhere where you can giggle to your hearts content. Fiesta Fun (located at 71 E 1160 S) offers activities like bumper cars, batting cages and video games. Turn it into a competition: Each activity is worth a certain amount of points, and the day’s loser has to buy the other a slice of pizza (or if you live together, does the dishes when you get home.

A fun activity for anyone ranging from those newly acquainted daters to the already-married-with-kids, is finding a fun hobby that both members of the couple can enjoy doing together.  Try finding a class that you enjoy taking together through the St. George community. Those interested can look online to see what is coming up in the area at http://www.sgcity.org//recreation/activities/.

This website lists everything from pottery to karate to dance lessons. Ladies, get your guys to try this next one as well.  Ballroom dancing is a trend that many couples are turning to for new date ideas. Take lessons together and enjoy learning something new while also getting closer with your partner. Dancing is a very intimate way to spend time together and also burn those calories! Ballroom Dance 4 fun, located at South West Dance studio (www.ballroomdance4fun.com) offers discounts for new students and group rates as well.

But if these activities don’t suit your style, create your own version! Invite other couples and friends over for the night and look online for any “How-To” guide and play hostess. Perhaps a weekly around-the-world cooking night could spark a new tradition to not only try new dishes, but also have fun making them with friends. Pick a different country each week and choose a popular recipe to make together.

But if you do feel like the classic dates are more of your style, dinner is still an option. It just might need a bit of mixing up for a change of pace.

One suggestion that ties into trying food from around the world is just that. Pick a restaurant for a romantic dinner out that you have never tried before. If you usually choose Mexican, opt for Brazilian. Made in Brazil (located at 929 W Sunset Blvd Ste 11B) is a fun restaurant to try new food since you get to try many different varieties of food without having to commit to an order if you are not sure if you will like it. And if Italian is more your thing, why not try Greek? Basila’s (located on 1013 East 700 South) boasts the best eggplant lasagna and has a cozy atmosphere that is both relaxing and enjoyable.

Speaking of burning calories, why not take an exercise class together? Zumba is another craze as of late, and most local gyms offer classes for beginners. Any date that keeps your blood moving by being active turns something that some may dread into something to look forward to. Get out and go on a walk together! St. George has a lot of parks that are enjoyable to spend the day visiting in. Pack a picnic lunch (bundle up in your cutest winter gear, or wait for one of the warmer feeling days we are lucky enough to experience) and stroll around a neighborhood and enjoy the scenery.
