Dixie State to Host Annual Employment Fair

ST. GEORGE – Dixie State College of Utah will host its annual Employment Fair on Wednesday, Jan. 19, in the Gardner Center Ballroom from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This year’s fair is open to all students and community members and will feature nearly 30 registered employers seeking to hire four-year graduates and students with associate degrees and certificates, along with providing part-time and seasonal job opportunities for all students.

DSC Career Center and Employment Services Director Kathy Kinney, who is coordinating the event, says that besides job hunting, students will find the Employment Fair serves as a great networking opportunity to meet employers and learn about businesses. In addition, students who are not graduating this year can gather important information about what major to choose or what classes to select in order to be prepared to apply for jobs at particular companies in the future.

“The Employment Fair is an excellent opportunity for students to network and hone their job search skills,” Kinney said. “The fair provides students a venue to practice delivering an ‘elevator speech,’ to conduct brief informational interviews, to research companies and exchange intelligent comments with recruiters, and to impress prospective employers.”

Kinney added that students should arrive dressed for success with a handful of resumes and take full advantage of the event.

Students can also rely on prospective employers handing out various promotional items and materials, along with a free lunch as pizza will be served throughout the day. In addition, this year’s event will feature a resume’ expert, who will provide on-the-spot resume review and advice to students on how to better their marketability.

Kinney noted that several employers are interested in meeting and interviewing graduates, such as Intermountain Healthcare, Zions Bank, CCSI, Wells Dairy/Blue Bunny, Wyoming Department of Corrections, Bureau of Land Management, Boy Scouts of America, Steton, Inc., All Connect, Help International, and Farmers Insurance, along with many branches of the United States Military. In addition, representatives from the University of Utah and Southern Utah University will be on hand with information on graduate programs.
