Seven arrested after Drug Task Force serves warrant

ST. GEORGE – Officers with the Washington County Drug and Gang Task Force made several arrests early this morning after serving a warrant in Washington Fields.

Lt. David Moss said officers had been watching a home at 5400 S Washington Fields Road for over a month before gathering enough evidence for a search warrant. Because it was believed that there were guns in the home, the task force was assisted by SWAT officers when serving the warrant last night.

Moss said that as officers were getting ready to serve the warrant, four individuals were leaving the residence. Officers arrested those four on separate charges.

Harvey Ortega of Beaver Dam, Ariz., was arrested for a second degree felony warrant and is being held on $600,000 bail. Veronica Molina of Little Field, Ariz., was arrested on three warrants. Brooke Smither of Mesquite, Nev., was arrested for possession of paraphernalia, marijuana and possession of amphetamines. Steve Yost, who is believed to be the one renting the residence that was searched, was arrested for possession of paraphernalia and marijuana.

Officers searched the home after having enough evidence that drugs were being sold out of the home, Moss said. Caleb Iles of Hurricane, Jessica Mertens of Chandler, and Shawn Smith of Washington, were arrested for possession of paraphernalia and possession of amphetamine.
